After-School

Dungeons & Dragons!

Grow, learn and play with tabletop roleplaying games!

What we do:

We run After School Tabletop Roleplaying games Online for Kiwi Kids aged 8 to 18.

We offer safe, original and age-appropriate stories that facilitate positive learning opportunities through play.

What is Dungeons & Dragons?

“In Dungeons & Dragons, the players form an adventuring party who explore fantasy worlds together as they embark on epic quests that grow their characters. The Game Master (also known as the GM) is the game's referee and storyteller, who creates the world and sets the scene for the group story-telling.

At its heart, D&D is a game that focuses on storytelling. The dice just help you along. Everything is your decision, from what you look like, to how you act, to what happens next.

There’s no winning or losing in D&D—at least, not in the conventional way. The collective creativity in your D&D game builds stories that you’ll tell again and again—ranging from the stuff of legend, all the way to absurd incidents that’ll make you laugh years later.”

Who Are We?

We are two fantasy-mad writer’s, creatives and Game Masters with a collective history of over ten years of playing D&D, in both running and playing long-form games.

We both have written our own long form narratives for many different game groups and have seen and experienced the wide ranging positive effects of tabletop roleplaying games.

As Dungeons and Dragons has found more mainstream awareness in recent years (through a D&D movie, popular TV shows like Stranger Things, webshows like Critical Role and Dimension 20), interest in playing has grown along rapidly in line with it’s pop-culture resurgence.

However, that as the interest in playing grew, many found it difficult to get started with Dungeons & Dragons; and those who could start often struggled to play in a safe and engaging group storytelling environment.

With a history of working with people, we felt we wanted to spread the joy of D&D with the creative youth who have the most to gain from these amazing games!  We view tabletop roleplaying games as an amazing way to increase prosocial skills, creativity and self-efficacy.

Harris Dowson

Harris’ history is based in psychology & social work but he has always been a creative who enjoys working with people.

With a psychology & creative writing degree, Harris is always looking for the stories of the individual, and how we all have something to teach and something to learn from one another.

Harris has ran multiple long form D&D games, including a three year campaign that saw him DM remotely while travelling through South America with his wife.

Joshua Wilkinson

Josh’ history is based in hospitality and making a diverse range of people feel safe & comfortable in a fun setting.

He has transferred these skills to his creative endeavors and has written and run countless stories for many different game groups for over the span of six years.

Josh was the creative seed for Spells & Dragons, being the one that introduced Harris to the magic world of D&D and the stories you could tell.
